REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN FOR 2018 CLASSES THIS SUMMER: At the Shrewsbury Sailing & Yacht Club, we pride ourselves on quality sailing instruction. For over fifty years, we have been teaching children to enjoy this lifelong sport. Our goal is to teach your beginner sailor the fundamentals of sailing and for the more experienced, we will challenge them to improve. SSYC offers classes for novice, beginner, intermediate, advanced sailors and race team. Boats used in our program include Optimists, 420s, FJs, N-10s and Lasers. PRICING: A late fee of $75 will be added to registrations after June 1, 2018. SSYC MEMBERS RECEIVE A 40% DISCOUNT OFF THE REGULAR CLASS FEES SHOWN, will apply at the end. TO REGISTER: Choose the appropriate class option below and charter boat fee if your child does not own his/her own boat. Questions about the classes or registration? A few notes: • The class level requested is subject to the final approval of the Head Instructor and Program Chair. • Passing a swim check at SSYC is required of all sailors on the first day of sailing. • No lessons are held on the July 4th holiday • Sailors are encouraged to participate in the Junior Sweeps Regatta August 6-9 at SSYC and Monmouth Boat Club. No regular lessons are held that week so that our full staff is available to assist those registered for this regatta

2. Puddle Duck Summer Session

Puddle Ducks is a pre-sailing class for children 5 and 6 years of age and/or entering kindergarten. Puddle Ducks will offer basic fun-oriented activities through arts & crafts while teaching parts of the boat, sailing vocabulary and knot tying as the children become more comfortable around sailboats within a safe environment.

3. Novice Summer Session

Children 7 years of age and/or entering 1st or 2nd grade will enjoy fun activities where they will learn the parts of the boat, knot tying, water safety, rigging and working as a team. Your children will be introduced to sailing in an FJ while an instructor is present in the sailboat at all times.

Tuesday & Thursday 9:30pm - 12:00 Noon, Introduction to Sailing.

4MW. Beginner Summer Session Monday & Wednesday Morning

Beginner classes are for sailors learning to sail. We will cover rigging in more detail, how to identify wind direction, boat handling and sailing skills, tacking and jibing, water safety, parts of the sailboat and knot tying. Optional instruction is available on Friday mornings, at no additional cost, which will focus on preparing the students to race in Beginner Regattas.

8:30am - 12:00 Noon. Includes optional Friday AM session

Optional instruction is available on Friday mornings, at no additional cost, which will focus on preparing the students to race in Local Regattas.

Monday and Wednesday Afternoons 1:00pm - 4:30pm. Includes optional Friday afternoon races with instruction
